The IT Renaissance Capability Framework
The IT Renaissance Capability Framework was originally developed by the founders of IT Renaissance in 1998. At that time there was no common language for IT professonals to use to describe everything that they did. We developed the IT Renaissance Capability Framework to to help our clients describe, assess, design and create the IT capabilities that they needed to support their businesses.
(We define an organization’s capabilities as the people, processes, technology, assets and business partners that provide outputs of value to its customers.)
Since we created Version 1 of the Framework in 1998, there have been significant developments in the area of industry frameworks (ITIL, COBIT, PMBOK, CMMi, etc.). Unfortunately these frameworks collectively still do not describe everything that an IT organization does and there are substantive overlaps between them.
In 2006 the framework was significantly updated to integrate in the best thinking from these leading IT industry frameworks. We continuously update and extend the framework as the IT industry evolves and as we work with thought leaders at our clients.
Our framework includes process decompositions, context diagrams, process SIPOC (Supplier, Input, Process, Output and Customer) definitions, tools & techniques, best practices and five stage maturity models. It is supported by automated assessment tools that enable IT leadership teams to quickly assess the current maturity levels of their organization and agree on target maturity levels and improvement priorities.
